Everything between the exporter and your site

A physical commodity trader takes ownership of the product and the work needed to move it. These are the services that make up each trade.

01 · Sourcing

Buying at origin

We buy from established exporters in producing countries. Each purchase is made against a written specification, a price basis and a shipment period, so the product we sell matches the product we buy.

  • Supplier selection and checks before trading
  • Agreed specification: grade, protein, moisture and other quality factors
  • Price basis agreed up front, for example FOB at the export port
  • Shipment period planned around the buyer's delivery needs

02 · Shipping & logistics

Getting the cargo across

Bulk grain usually travels in dry bulk vessels; smaller lots can move in containers. We arrange the freight and insurance needed to bring the cargo from the export port to the UK.

  • Vessel or container booking
  • Cargo insurance where the contract requires it
  • Coordination of loading and discharge with port agents
  • Tracking each shipment from loading to arrival

03 · Quality & inspection

Independent checks at both ends

In international grain trade an independent superintendent is usually appointed at loading and at discharge to draw contractual samples and confirm the cargo and hold condition. US export grain is also officially inspected and weighed under the US Grain Standards Act.

  • Independent sampling and analysis at loading and discharge
  • Official US inspection and weight certificates for US export grain
  • Testing against UK food and feed safety limits where required
  • Results shared with the buyer as part of the shipping documents

04 · Trade documents & payment

Paperwork done properly

Every international trade runs on documents. They prove what was shipped, transfer ownership and trigger payment. We prepare and check them so the cargo can clear and payment can be made without delay.

  • Sales and purchase contracts on recognised trade terms
  • Bill of lading, commercial invoice and certificate of origin
  • Phytosanitary and quality certificates as required
  • Payment by letter of credit or documents against payment, as agreed

05 · UK delivery

From the quay to your intake

Once the vessel arrives we coordinate discharge, customs clearance and the final leg to the buyer, depending on the agreed delivery terms.

  • Discharge at a UK port with grain-handling facilities
  • Customs clearance through a customs agent
  • Onward delivery by road where the contract includes it
  • Delivered prices quoted in pounds sterling on request

06 · Market knowledge

Helping buyers plan

Prices and availability depend on the harvest, the season and the route. We help customers understand which origins and qualities suit their needs and when to buy.

  • Guidance on origins and quality options
  • Harvest and shipment timing
  • Clear explanation of price basis and costs
